TRIO RAMBERGET

Biography

Trio Ramberget was formed in early spring 2016 when three musicians with backgrounds in jazz, free improvisation and classical music played together for the first time. During that first improvisation, they landed on a simple D major chord, and something clicked: a shared sense that their instrumentation had something unique to offer. The trio has since released six albums, two EPs, and several singles, with their music featured in short films, documentaries, and dance performances both in Sweden and internationally.

Their sound—rooted in free improvisation but shaped by ambient and drone influences—gradually reached a wider audience with Musik att somna till, which landed on A Closer Listen's Top 20 of the year and earned airplay on KEXP in Seattle and Concertzender in the Netherlands. Comparisons to Brian Eno, Max Richter, and La Monte Young followed, alongside praise for their distinctly acoustic approach to a genre dominated by electronics.

Their most ambitious project to date, 24 Ways, was released across three volumes on piano and coffee records between 2021 and 2022. Inspired by Bach's Das Wohltemperierte Klavier, the album guides the listener through all 24 major and minor keys—each presented as both a prelude and a free improvisation. It was named Ambient Album of the Year by Swedish music magazine Lira and received widespread acclaim in the international music press.
