KLANGRIKET / SJORS MANS

Biography

Stockholm-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Fabian Rosenberg (Klangriket) and Dutch musician and composer Sjors Mans first found each other through SoundCloud. Their first try-out, a piece called Sarem, was good enough that they wanted to push further, to see what they could make sharing the same room. Fabian flew to Amsterdam and over four days at Sjors's studio the two improvised freely, swapping instruments and following the sound wherever it led.

The result was The Amsterdam Sessions, one of our label's earliest releases. Five pieces named after locations around the city, weaving ambient textures and atmospheric electronics through delicate piano-based compositions. The record drew comparisons to the collaborative work of Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds and earned warm notices from Headphone Commute, A Closer Listen, and Stationary Travels, among others.

Six years later, the two returned with Origami Birds, their debut full-length. Built around a poem written by Fabian (translated into both English and Swedish and narrated by three generations of women), the album traces the delicate folds, ascents, and descents of paper origami cranes. It features contributions from bassist Dan Berglund, known for his work with the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, alongside a Swedish string quartet. A Closer Listen called it one of the label's finest albums to date.
